Mark 5 SCR Rebreather Overview

The Mark 5 RebreatherAt ABEL Engineering we have designed and developed an SCR (Semi Closed Rebreather) that can be used in conjunction with most Stab Jackets, Cylinders and OC (Open Circuit) Demand Valves. The reason for this being twofold, economics and safety.

  1. Why replace equipment that you already have, are familiar with and know how to use to it's best advantage?
  1. Since most OC Scuba Cylinders are in the region of 7lts WC (Water Capacity) and above then should there be an emergency situation where the breathing loop becomes flooded etc. then switching to OC on a larger cylinder should have a greater endurance if necessary.

The ABEL Mk5 SCR is a modular kit system, that is best thought of as an SCR Second Stage. With this equipment you can upgrade your existing OC SCUBA to SCR SCUBA. The only modification required to your existing equipment is to have it cleaned and serviced for Nitrox use. The valve train for gas flow control plugs directly into your first stage regulator via one of the LP ports. The Counter-lungs and scrubber unit can be configured virtually as you please, but are most conveniently mounted via the use of a Spine Plate, either side and above for single or twin cylinder configuration. Although the MK5 is a purely mechanical device electronic monitoring of PPO2 levels and requisite decompression profiles can be determined by fitting a PPO2 Sensor into the breathing loop, index linked to a dive computer.

The Mark 5 Rebreather Some of the unique features of the Mark 5 SCR are:
  1. Compatible with most hard back stab jackets
  2. Can be used with almost any diving cylinders ranging from 3 to 15 litres in single or twin set configuration for dual gas mixes
  3. Variable volume (charge weight) scrubber unit for a more economical use of absorbent material
  4. Adjustable fine gas flow metering system that can be used for any gas/Nitrox mix requiring a flow rate of between 5 litres per min to 30 litres per min.
  5. Four sizes of counter lung volumes for various torsos and system configurations
  6. Tailored breathing hose lengths
  7. Economically designed twin hose mouthpiece
  8. Ditchable ballast system
