Scrubber
The
scrubber unit is a variable volume axial flow type.
The maximum charge is 3kg and will give a
minimum/maximum dive duration when fully charged of
three hours regardless of depth. The minimum volume
of absorbent that can be loaded is 0.5kg. Therefore
the charge weight can be adjusted accordingly to
suit the dive plan. Absorbent packing within the
canister is achieved by a simple self-locking
system. Thermal protection for the absorbent has
primarily been addressed by a careful selection of
canister body materials.
Absorbent material can be changed easily between
dives if required. The only special tools needed
are your hands. Sealing of the end caps on the
canister is achieved by a radial type 'O' ring
seal. This is an extremely reliable type of
sealing arrangement. The cross-sectional flow
area of the scrubber unit is as large as
possible in order to keep breathing loop
resistance to a minimum. It is most easily
mounted for single cylinder configurations via
the saddle on the spine plate as shown.
Flow
control of the breathing loop is optimized by
the additional feature of a third one-way valve
on the inlet connection to the scrubber. This
prevents any gas migration back from the
scrubber whilst adding additional gas to, or
flushing the system. Particle filtration and
dust control is attained by ABS support plates,
perforated stainless steel screens, fine
polyester screens and a fine dust filter in the
outlet connection of the scrubber unit. A
feature of all the components in the scrubber
unit is they can be easily washed and cleaned by
hand ready for use again. The only item you
should ever have to change in the scrubber unit
under normal circumstances is the absorbent
material itself. This is a tough, reliable piece
of kit!
